Firm Application

Apply to host an intern through Future Planner Careers.

In order to participate in this summer internship program at the firm level, you must agree to the basic requirements below. You are welcome to pay your intern more, hire them for more weeks, and give them more hours.

Firms must:

  1. Be a fee-only or fee-based firm with a focus on comprehensive financial planning
  2. Commit to paying your intern at least $20 per hour (or the minimum wage for your area, whichever is higher)
  3. Commit to at least 8-12 weeks
  4. Commit to at least 20 hours per week (up to 40)
  5. Commit to pay a suggested partnership program donation based on firm size. After completing the application you will receive an invoice.

We prefer that firms are open to hiring a virtual candidate to expand access to the program. If you need a local candidate, please let us know and we will make best efforts to accommodate this request.

We prefer that you've hosted an intern in the past, or have hired an employee, so you have experience onboarding and training a new team member. This is not a requirement and we are happy to provide resources or connect you with another firm that has previous internship experience.

The application deadline is 11:59pm PST on 12/31/2026. Once you have completed your application, we will contact you regarding next steps. If you have questions, please send us an email at info@futureplannercareers.org.

Engagement Standards:

Our goal is to provide aspiring financial planners an entry point into the profession. In addition, we understand that many firms have a difficult time sourcing pre-qualified talent and don't know where to look. Thus, we strive to provide a service to bridge these gaps.

We believe that the secret to any successful relationship is to have clear expectations from the start. We ask that you read the tenets that we operate by, what you can expect from us, and what we can expect from you.

Tenets:

  • A successful internship placement requires a time commitment from you as well as from us.
  • Good communication is critical for a mutually beneficial relationship.
  • We employ a systematic approach to achieve thoroughness and efficiency in providing our internship matching services.
  • We enjoy working with great firms that appreciate the true value of our services.
  • We believe that everyone who aspires to be a financial planner should have an opportunity to pursue this career, regardless of their background.
  • Our suggested partnership program donations are based on the size of your firm and the number of interns you are looking to place.

What you can expect from us:

  • We will take time to interview your firm to understand your unique culture and staffing needs.
  • We will follow up with you in a timely manner.
  • We will assist you along the way as you interview, hire, onboard, and work with your intern during the summer.
  • We will screen the applicants and provide a pool of candidates for your firm to consider that matches your firm’s parameters as closely as possible.
  • We will provide resources to help with the hiring and onboarding process (ex: sample NDAs, employment agreements, etc.). In addition, we will offer support with training, resources, and best practices to help you create a welcoming environment in your firm.
  • We will coach applicants so they are well prepared for your interviews.
  • We will provide training sessions before and during the internship to prepare and develop the interns for a successful internship with your firm.
  • We will be available throughout this process to offer support if any issue arises with your intern.
  • We are compensated through the firm partnership program donations, individual donations, sponsorships from strategic partners, and in-kind donations. We use these resources to support the program and provide scholarship opportunities to the Future Planner Careers interns.

We require you to pay a minimum of $20/hour, or the minimum wage for your area, whichever is higher.

If you heard about us from an organization, podcast, conference or webinar, please select "Other" and add a description.

While this is not a requirement, we would like to understand the potential opportunities for job placements.

e.g. How to write an offer letter, how to set up payroll, how to schedule the intern's work hours, etc.
